Planetary transits are the ongoing movements of planets through the zodiac signs. As planets move, they form geometric angles (aspects) to each other and to points in your birth chart, creating shifting energetic influences that astrologers interpret.
Transits affect you based on how current planetary positions interact with your natal chart. When a transiting planet forms an aspect to one of your natal planets, it activates the themes associated with both planets and the houses they occupy.
A retrograde planet appears to move backward through the zodiac from Earth's perspective. Astrologically, retrogrades are times for review, revision, and reflection in the areas governed by that planet. Mercury retrograde affects communication, Venus retrograde affects relationships, and so on.
Inner planets (Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) orbit closer to the Sun and move quickly through signs, creating short-term influences. Outer planets (Jupiter through Pluto) move slowly, staying in one sign for months or years, shaping generational and long-term themes.
These are general sky positions. Your natal chart reveals exactly which houses and planets are activated by today's transits.
