Zodíaco

The zodiac is a band of sky divided into 12 equal segments of 30 degrees each, named after constellations: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. In Western astrology, the zodiac begins at the vernal equinox (0° Aries) and is based on seasons, not actual star positions. Each sign has an associated element (Fire, Earth, Air, Water) and modality (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable), creating a system of personality archetypes and cosmic cycles.

The 12 signs follow a developmental sequence from Aries (birth, raw impulse) through Pisces (dissolution, spiritual transcendence), and every chart contains all 12 signs — meaning every person carries all zodiac energies, just emphasized differently. In a real chart, you might have no planets in Virgo but Virgo on your 6th house cusp, meaning Virgoan themes of service and analysis still apply to your daily routines. A widespread misconception is that Western astrology is 'wrong' because the constellations have shifted due to precession (the sidereal vs. tropical debate). Western astrology intentionally uses the tropical zodiac, which is anchored to the seasons and equinoxes rather than star positions — it is a different system, not an error. Understanding the zodiac matters because it provides the symbolic language for all astrological interpretation. Without knowing what each sign represents, you cannot meaningfully read any planet placement, house cusp, or aspect pattern in a chart.
