Retrogradación

Retrograde motion is an optical illusion caused by the relative speeds and orbits of Earth and other planets. When a planet is retrograde, it appears to move backward through the zodiac. Astrologically, retrograde periods signal times of review, reflection, and revisiting past matters related to that planet's domain. Mercury retrograde famously disrupts communication and technology. Venus retrograde reviews relationships. Mars retrograde slows action. Retrograde planets in the natal chart often indicate internalized or delayed expression of that planet's energy.

In a real chart, someone born with Saturn retrograde often has an unusual relationship with authority and structure — they may reject conventional rules, develop their own internal discipline system, or experience career success later in life after a period of self-doubt. Multiple natal retrogrades suggest a person who processes many areas of life internally before acting outwardly. During transit retrogrades, practical examples abound: Mercury retrograde may bring an old friend back into your life, a contract that needs renegotiation, or a tech failure that forces you to slow down and double-check. Jupiter retrograde turns expansion inward — a period for philosophical reflection rather than outward growth. A common misconception is that retrogrades are universally bad or that you should avoid all action during them. Retrogrades are actually ideal for anything with a 're-' prefix: review, revise, reconnect, reconsider. They matter for chart interpretation because they modify how a planet's energy is expressed — rather than projecting outward naturally, retrograde energy must first be processed internally, often producing deeper, more considered results.
